I bought this for my 68 year old mother who likes to play slots.
She's not very computer savey but was able to navigate around this game and we both thought it was fun.

I have been quite happy with the Real Deal Slots 2 that I recently purchased. There is huge variety of games, several of which have bonus rounds just like in the casinos. I only wish it were as easy to win at the casino!

Usually, when I am at a casino where the casino says it pays off, say, "94%" on its slot machines, I get to wondering why the 6% they say they take in, is all from the machine I happen to be playing at the time! Everyone else seems to be winning at the slots...but not, sadly, me. As I am mainly a "table" player when I go to casinos, I must admit that these losing streaks have only added fuel to the fire, for me to have had the traditional "table players' snobbery" as far as slot machines go. In fact, a gambling expert, (whose name escapes me at present), was once a guest on a well-known afternoon talk show. After explaining, very clearly, some quick strategies for table games, the hostess of the show asked him if there were any ways he could recommend to approach slot machines. The expert said: "Yes. My strategy is to approach the slot machines....and then walk in the other direction!"

However, I learnt one day at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, that there are slot machines...and then there are OTHER slot machines. I was getting tired from all the walking around the casino, and sat down at a random slot machine. Soon, a lady came over to me, and said: "PLEASE don't play that machine! It's the machine I'VE been playing on!" After asssuring her I was just sitting down to rest, she left, and I felt relieved....but also now suspecting that all slot machines were NOT alike, as I had heretofore believed.

Well, circumstances in my life have forced me to move... My favourite table games...bacarrat and roulette, are not played here -- and I lose at poker and blackjack all the time. Slots are all that's left...so I decided to research them.

Of all the gaming experts on slots, I have found GAYLE MITCHELL'S "Slots Made Easy" series of books the best. But I decided to buy "Reel Deal Slots Vol 2", as it purports to simulate casino slots that are actually played. So I bought it for research....

This CD can be lots of fun...but it does take getting used to. The intro., (which takes about a minute), cannot be skipped - a boring minus, after playing it many times, I feel. You are then faced with a virtual casino full of different slot machines, with a large Egyptian Sphinx in the middle, for the cashier. (Does it represent the "Riddle of the Slots",I wonder?) An intriguing...but somewhat repetitive tune is played while you mouse-over the various slots--as their names are displayed in a box above the Sphinx. (There is a nice, semi-3D effect, as the Sphinx goes to left, as you mouse right -- or vice-versa -- adding depth to the virtual scene.) The first few times I played, it took me a while to get back to a favourite slot...but then I realized there is a neat little tab on the upper left corner. clicking on it will bring options including a LIST of all the games, plus Exit, and other "go-to" options.

Once a game dollar amount bid is chosen, (by clicking on the betting amount...usually set at the lowest amount first), it cannot be changed. You must exit the game and then go back to it, if you want to change the bet. This can be maddening to people like me who like to "play the averages" and vary each bet. Also, pressing the "cash out" option, (usually a bit difficult to find), will immediately exit you from a game.

It has been said by other reviewers that the slots here are too loose...and I agree. But still, the slots are NOT all equally lose...and going to the "paytables", to see which configurations give the most returns, are really what I bought this CD for. You must first deposit virtual cash before you can look at the paytables, a minus in my opinion. But after a while, you know which games, (and paytables) give the most money. The right way to do it, I think, is to deposit the money, look at the paytable, guess whether you will make or lose money based on it, then play and see if you are correct.

The music in some of these games is great! So are the graphics...and the bonus games are a LOT of fun. "Graverobber" and "Jolly Roger" are two that I have tried that have incredibly, beautifully designed bonus games. Of course, robbing graves and shooting off cannon to down ships may not be to your taste...but try to think of it as virtual robbing of the graves of your worst enemies, and shooting down the ships of the dictator you hate the most, (who has somehow found his way into the 17th-18th century). Fantasizing like this can be encouraged by this CD....and who knows, might even lead to writing a novel or two?

One thing I do NOT like about this CD is that it must be IN the computer in order to be played. This is probably to prevent copying...but it can also be maddening when one wants to play, and has misplaced one's CD!

The "Virtual Prize Vault" is really something else! The pleasant, wise-cracking voice, describing these prizes is worth at least half the price of this CD alone! Along with all the games, fun, and, yes, learning about which games to play and which not, you also get a stand-up comedy routine!

All in all, the games here win more, or win less according to Gayle Mitchell's rules...which is a nice re-assurance. And there are many ideas you can get, for imagination and for profit, just by playing these games, which are not (yet), in Ms. Mitchell's e-books.

I have yet to go to a land-based casino here. But when I do, I'm sure I'll be glad that I had "practice" from this CD. I've already had much enjoyment and, yes, learning from it!
